Baby on the way!

My wife is due with our second little female on the 3rd of April....but I don't think she is gonna make it that long. I bet it is two weeks away.....somewhere around the middle or late days of March. We had our first girl at Baptist East hospital and that is where Elena's sister will be born, too. Keep your ears posted and I will direct you in finding our new little one at the Baptist East website when she arrives! Brithing the new baby has been on my mind a lot cause the wife is in the 'I'm tired of being pregnant' stage and she is really hurting and feeling the pressure. It is much worse than the last time, 19 months ago.
The other night I was watching American Idol with the wife (Leslie), and a young African-American girl got up to sing. She was really young...but she could belt it out. When you hear her talk she reminds me of the little girl, (Butterfly McQueen played Prissy), in Gone With the Wind mostly remembered for her line.... ""Lordy, we got to have a doctor! I don't know nuthin' 'bout birthin' babies!" !" That is her voice when she talks, but even though she is young she still has a great exciting and enthusiastic quality in her singing. It's just her 'normal' voice makes me think of babies......but that is where my mind is at the present.

Check out Dave Clo

dave glo guitar image

Dave Clo-Guitarist extroadinare, creative genius, and down right nice guy. I met Dave while recording the new project in January and was not only amazed at his playing but at his heart. He has a humble and yet crazy, alive-like spirit that has you listening to his endless list of stories from past days on the road. He has created an outlet for young (or old) church bands to help improve their ability to lead congregations in worship. Check out his website. It will lead you to all he is doing from the Praise Band Workshop to his recording studio, Camp David located in Brentwood, Tennessee, how to order his book You're In The Band, and more.

Brad lays down some E/G

Here is Brad Avery of Third Day laying down some guitar tracks, in Atlanta, for a new song called "You Came Along". This new song will be one of the feature tracks on my new release coming out around the end of May. Brad can sure squeeze some incredible sounds out on that ax. Totally awesome!

Shoebox

One of the songs on the new Chris Carder CD is called 'Shoebox'. Mac Powell and I wrote it one morning in the studio. I had been working on the verses and he just whipped out the chorus simple as that! A new friend came into the studio named David Clo. Dave has played with everyone after leaving All Star United. He is a really creative guitarist. I will blog about Dave's new ministry later.

He layed down all the guitars on 'Shoebox'. The song is about leaving the past behind and pressing on to the better things God has for us. So many people live life like the high school or college days were the best days of their lives...and maybe that is true for many. As a believer in Christ, I definitely feel like the 'better' days or the 'glory' years are all in front of me. So, the words to the song go like this:

Shoebox
Verse 1:

I’ve got a shoebox underneath my arm,
Yeah, its been draggin’ me down way too long.
Filled with empty dreams that never came true
I bet we all have got a box or two.
Chorus:
(I’m letting go)
Of all the things that are pulling me down
(Now that I know)
There’s so much for me than what’s come before
I’ve done made up my mind
Not wasting no more time
I’m leaving it behind
Verse 2:
I’m tired of thinking ‘bout what might have been
How I could change my life and live it again
That’s just a lie trying to run me down
My better days are all in front of me now.

Favorites

What are your favorites? Like favorite food or movie or book or song/Album. I got a few favorites....like my favorite movie is "Braveheart". My favorite book would be the entire set of "The Chronicles of Narnia", after The Holy Bible (of course). My favorite food is Chinese or mexican, that is if I can't sink my teeth into my momma's food.....just about anything she cooks. I think my favorite album of all time was 'Blister Soul' by Vigilantes of Love. There was sure a lot of passion in that project. I love about everything Third Day puts out. What kind of favorites do you have?

Forest Park: A Community of Believers

For the last five years or so I have been leading worship at a really great church in the eastside of Louisville, Kentucky. The church is Forest Park Community Church. It is a church of about 200 people just trying to follow God. We have kickin' live music that sounds more like a rock concert for like 30 minutes on Sunday mornings! (People are always telling us we are too loud) It is in a part of Louisville called Jeffersontown.

The pastor's name is Ronnie Caswell. He is an ex-motorcross guy who still has the MX itch. He is really involved in the national FCA-MX organization. I can not say enough about Ronnie Caswell. He is an honest, God-fearing man who exemplifies what the word 'pastor' truly means. If you need a great church with great music and you live in Louisville, check us out. Just Mapquest us and come on by.

New Release coming!

As I mentioned before, I went down in mid January to my hometown (Atlanta, Georgia) to record my next project. It should be out in early April.....right after our second girl pops into this crazy world. Yeah, my wife Leslie is due the 3rd of April....so we are having to balance the project projection date along side the other new arrival! The birth of my third project depends on getting the finishing touches done in March. We are getting some 'nasty' B3 sounds on several songs this week. I continue to lay down some vocals here at a studio in Louisville. My desire is to get some strings on a couple or three songs also. Then I will go to Nashville in March to lay down some finishing touches on the vocals and BGVs. Get it mastered and hopefully turned around in April. Anyway, while in the waiting mode check out this photo of the guys who have helped make the new project a reality. That is, from left to right, Mac Powell (Third Day), Shawn Lewis (Hyper Static Union), Pat Malone, Scott Klopfenstein (formerly with Bill Mallonee and the Vigilantes of Love), and Brad Avery (Third Day) along with yours truly. These guys are incredible musicians and artists. What a great time we had working on this new release!

Project: Too Much For Me

In 1992, I came out with my first project, called 'Too Much For Me'. It was a collection of songs I had been working on and playing at a few churches and venues. It had some good songs on it. I had a great time recording it at Twelve Oaks Recording Studio in Smyrna, Georgia. A great friend, Sonny Lallerstedt, produced the project with me. Sonny is an incredible musician. He is a great guy! You can check out the music at OPUS.

The artwork on the project was the creation of David Vanderpoel. This is the black and white version of the photo. It was a black and white original that he colored by hand. It was awesome. David was the creator of 'Visions of Gray' magazine and 'Gray Dot Records'. He too is a great friend and I am grateful for him and his contribution. The picture was taken in 'Little Five Points' just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. I only saw the small version of the photo until one day David gave me the 8" x 10". I took it to the studio and Sonny says, "Look, you're project is called 'Too Much For Me' and in the picture you are passed out on the wall with a beer bottle beside you. Is that the message you are trying to communicate?"

Lost in Your Love

Yeah, in 1989, I met this great lady and she ended up going to Indonesia on a mission team I was the assistant leader of; and yeah, I fell for her; and yeah, of course, she broke my heart.

But during the summer we were flying from Manado to Bali on our way back to the states and while in the airport I started playing with this little riff on my guitar. Then they started calling us to board the plane. Well, when they call you to board the plane in Indonesia.....you board the plane. We got in our seats and before they had begun to taxi from the gate I had written this love song called 'Lost in Your Love'. I still like this song.....about love, about young love, about infactuation and not being able to keep your mouth closed when you heart says scream.

You can check out the song at OPUS.

Annual trips to Downeast Maine

I frequent Maine often while I tour and on one of these trips to I took this self-portrait at the Boston airport while eating some food.

I have had numerous trips to Maine to lead worship or do concerts. This is photo at Scott Porter's home in August '05 at an annual outdoor concert/picnic.

Scott is the pastor of the Head of the River Baptist Church in Cutler, Maine. I have loved the times spent there and getting to know the folks in this part of the country.

Live at the Bangor Auditorium

Here is a little photo a friend of mine took at the Bangor Auditorium back in May of 2004. I had a blast leading worship for the Maine Christian Teen Convention that year. It was a great event featuring artists like Casting Crowns, Geoff Moore and Shaun Groves. There were a lot of regional artists as well.

Albanian Scuptor's image 1994

Image hosting by Photobucket

In 1994, I went with Jim Britton, of Pioneers Mission Agency, to Albania. We did not know anyone there and were basically alone in the country, except for a translator we had hired. While there we were greeted by a family who had an apartment in Peshkopi. They asked us to stay with them and during our stay the father, who was a sculptor, drew this picture of me. They were a great family.
