Casto performance at The Rudyard Kipling in Lousville, KY

I got the chance to play at The Rudyard Kipling with a good friend of mine name James Casto. I pirated a little video from my camera and mixed the recording with the live performance. It is short and sweet. I was blessed to be there. Casto has some great songs that will encourage you if you get a chance to hear him live. If not, go and purchase the CD!

The Choir at Heirchex.com

Here is a band that I enjoyed in the early years of my Christian walk. The Choir was granted a pathway due to the pioneer work of people like Larry Norman, as well as others...and in turn they continued to paved that path, eventually leading us to some of the great music we enjoy today. Check them out at heirchex.com. Here is "Amazing", a sample listen.

Movie Review: A Night in the Museum

Not too long ago my wife and I saw 'A Night in the Museum'. We have a 9 month old and a mid-2 year old.....so, we don't get out much. It is always nice to go to a movie.....have a little date.....eat a little popcorn. It is doubly nice to see a movie we enjoy.

It's a story about a museum having to cut back their expenses and releasing their three elderly night security guards, played by Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney and Bill Cobbs. In their stead is a young and unsuspecting divorced father, Ben Stiller, who is struggling himself to make a living. The storyline continues with Stiller being left in charge of a museum where the wax figures come to life every night.

It has a nice plot and interesting characters. Robin Williams plays Teddy Roosevelt, Owen Wilson plays a cowboy who is at odds with Octavius played by Steve Coogin. There is no sex, drugs, alcohol or cussing. A great family movie.

Carder's Song by Song exploits

Strange and Wonderful:

In my beginning I was created in the image of my Maker,
The Creator of all heavens and earth.
He knitted me in my mother's womb,
And He knew me, yes it's true, before birth.

And it's stra-ya-ya-yange and wonderful
How He has made me.
And it's stra-ya-ya-yange and wonderful
How He has given me life.

As I've grown to be a man I have wandered through this garden,
Taking things that don't belong to me.
Though I vowed to follow Him,
I have tasted fruit forbidden,
Not unpunished, yet He has forgiven me.

And it's stra-ya-ya-yange and wonderful
How He forgave me.
And it's stra-ya-ya-yange and wonderful
How He has given me life.

In the beginning was The Word, the Word was with God,
The Word was God.
I know it's hard to understand, but I believe it.
Though He never did anything wrong,
Still He shed his blood for me and He wants to give me life,
I receive it.

And it's stra-ya-ya-yange and wonderful
How He has saved me
And it's stra-ya-ya-yange and wonderful
How He has given me life.

© 1996 Too Much Records. Music by Mac Powell.
Words by Mac Powell and Chris Carder.

Basically, this song was penned by Mac Powell of Third Day. The band was just getting going. I heard them at a friend's high school graduation party. I loved the vocals and passion of Powell even then. Brad Avery, who is one of the guitarists in Third Day, was at the time playing for me. We were all going to the same church in Austell, GA...Orange Hill Baptist. I had decided to attend The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I had a meeting with Mac and soon afterwards Brad was the glue that hoisted Third Day into a national scene.

Back to the song...(sorry to ramble)...One day I went to Mac's house to collaborate on some songs. When we got together, he told me he had written a song for me the day before. I asked him, "whadya mean?" He said, " I just prayed and asked God to give me a song for you and this is it." I changed a few words to the lyrics and the key of the song and it became history.

I loved the song then and recorded it in 1996 on my 'Strange and Wonderful' CD....then last year I covered it again with a little updating at Mac's studio. Brad got to play on it and this time Mac sang some background vocals on it. The song has an amazing anointing on it. I feel God's pleasure when I am singing it.

We Sang "My Eyes Are Dry" in Worship Today

One of my favorite songs we sang today at church, Forest Park Community Church, was 'My Eyes Are Dry'. I have just recently blogged about Keith Green and his ministry. This is another song by him. 'My Eyes Are Dry' is a soulful, penetrating song that awakens the sleeping heart to a fresh relationship with Jesus. How I miss hearing Green's powerful voice displaying his passion while he sang it. And it also quickens my heart to stay alert. I can get so hard to the Lord. Many people commented about the song this morning after services on how they broke during the song. The words are simply:

My Eyes Are Dry
My eyes are dry, my Faith is old.
My heart is hard, my prayers are cold.
And I know how I ought to be,
Alive to You, and dead to me.

Well what can be done, for an old heart like mine?
Soften it up, with Oil and Wine.
The Oil is You,
Your Spirit of Love.
Please wash me anew,
In the Wine of Your Blood.

Old School Song: Psalm 139: 19 - 22 counting enemies

Psalm 139: 19 - 22

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

19 Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God!
O men of blood, depart from me!

20 They speak against you with malicious intent;
your enemies take your name in vain!

21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?

22 I hate them with complete hatred;
I count them my enemies.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Wow, what a strong picture of David's heart as he lays out all his emotions
while talking to the Lord. This is more than just emotion...but conviction for the love of God's Word and God's character. It is easy for me to lean on these words and justify 'hatred' in my own heart towards those in our world today that hate God and speak against God's Word or His attributes. I mean, come on, I ain't Superman! But I have to keep emotions in check and remind myself that although there are many against God and their actions I do hold in utter contempt, they are yet bound for a dark Hell without the Savior's covering. Jesus did say, "Pray for your enemies..."

Keith Green Video

Here is the Keith Green video I promised in my Larry Norman post. Keith's music really helped me get grounded in my walk with Jesus. His passion and hunger for God are clearly evident in his songs and ministry.

Seems the video Keith Green Story is online - I might post it sometime, maybe one part a week, it's not good to load too many vids on one page at a time. You can find it on youtube if you don't want to wait.

More Larry Norman: The Tune Live Video

Some time back, I wrote a post about Larry Norman and his influence on me and my music. In that post I wrote, "I love to see a person's heart exposed in their music and Larry Norman is the model. Norman, Keith Green, Pat Terry, and others paved the way for artists like myself....who are just trying to get their music from their hearts to the people."

Seeing Larry live, you get to see more than just a person's heart exposed in music, but sometimes his expression is simply so raw, real, so radical ... you see a performer with the guts. This video might take a bit, it's Larry's song: The Tune. Larry was once on stage and started playing with the piano - and ad-libbed a song. He found someone bootlegging the show and borrowed a copy of the tape - so he could learn the song - and perform it again.

Here is Larry live at the piano - singing: The Tune. You get to see some of Larry's humor as well. Enjoy:

I'll be posting a Keith Green Video later this week ... be sure to come back for that.

Find Me @ last.fm by Chris Carder

Well, this will be a short post - but like the title says, "Find me at last.fm."

Need a link: Carder on last.fm

Stop by, give me a listen. If you sign up (or are signed up) any comments, tags, etc., would be greatly welcomed. Telling a friend would be nice too. I'd love to see your face (avatar, etc.,) on my fan page as well.

Speaking of faces, I am enjoying all of the new people I am meeting at MyBlogLog - to those who haven't joined my community - consider this a welcomed invitation to add me as a contact or join my community: A Day in Life or Chris Carder Music Online. bands, artists, musicians - keep people coming to your site

Two Ways to Get Visits to Your Music Site
Here are two things you can do to help promote your website. I invite you to come along and use the same methods I am using. I'll post a couple of them in this post.

Number One: Traffic Swarm

Set Traffic Swarm as your start page, click 8 links everytime you begin a surf session (or at least one time when you open your browser) and you'll see people checking out your music. It is free, easy, and there's not a ton of music sites on this traffic exchange - so we stand out there as something unique. I get visits and make new fans with Traffic Swarm everyday. As most musicians know, it is not always easy to keep new people coming to your music site - with the Swarm - you don't have to wonder if someone is going to be stopping by to learn about your music today - you can count on it.

Number Two: MyBlogLog
This is a pretty awesome way to meet new friend, see new faces, and network your ownline sites, blog, myspace, etc.

Here's my blog log member page: Carder's MyBlogLog pay it a visit - consider signing up - feel free to add me as a contact and to join any of my communities: A Day in Life Chris Carder Music Online chris carder's myspace or Too Much Records

KRIS-to-fur is that how you say it?

Happened upon this name meanings thing - where they wanted your name and email and such just to tell you something you could google?

Anyway, the following is the result of my 10's if not 20's of seconds research - rolling back to my full name:

CHRISTOPHER

Gender: Masculine

Usage: English

Pronounced: KRIS-to-fur [key]

Means "bearing Christ", derived from Late Greek Χριστος (Christos) combined with φερω (phero) "to bear, to carry". Christopher was the legendary saint who carried the young Jesus across a river. He is the patron saint of travellers. Another famous bearer was Christopher Columbus, the explorer who reached the West Indies in the 15th century. (source)

Popularity of Christopher (odd, for a few years in the 1990's some women were named 'Christopher' what's up with that? Where are you female Christopher's out there? Hidding probably.

Related names - 'Chip' you gotta be kidding?!!!
Origin of the name Christopher (sorta)

Well, isn't that fun - and it saved me all that time of waiting for the truckload of sp@m I would have gotten if I had used that online offer.

Well, the links above should be fun if you want to search your own first name.

And here's a couple of new year's resolutions for those setting the bar low: "Get in a whole new rut!" and "Procrastinate more. Starting tomorrow."
