Larry Norman flies home!

With a sad heart we read yesterday that Larry Norman, the father of Christian rock music made his way home to be with his Savior. Norman was 60 years old and even hours before his death, he was creating lyrics for his next project. How his music challenged, encouraged, and convicted my walk with Jesus. How we all, ALL, in Christendom will miss him.
He dictated the following message to you while his friend Allen Fleming typed these words into Larry's computer:
"I feel like a prize in a box of cracker jacks with God's hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home. (.... read more) "

One of Larry's very profound songs I still love:

I Am a Servant
I am a servant, I am listening for my name
I sit here waiting I’ve been looking at the game
That I’ve been playing and I’ve been staying much the same
When you are lonely you’re the only one to blame

I am a servant, I am waiting for Your call
I’ve been unfaithful so I sit here in the hall
How can You use me when I’ve never given all
How can You choose me when You know I quickly fall

So You feed my soul and you make me whole
And you let me know You love me
And I’m worthless now but I’ve made a vow
I will humbly bow before You
Oh please use me, I am lonely

I am a servant, getting ready for my part
There’s been a change, a rearrangement in my heart
At last I’m learning there’s no returning once I start
To live’s a privilege, to love is such an art
But I need Your help to start
Oh please purify my heart
I am Your servant

Shared 'Hallelujah' during Church Service

Yesterday at my home church where I lead the praise sets we shared a new song by Brad Reynolds. I have really been enjoying Brad's music off his CD, In the Real World, and in fact purchased one just last Friday.
Yesterday, the praise band shared with the Forest Park congregation one of my favorite cuts called, Hallelujah.
Hallelujah is a great song that can remind the Christian to 'rejoice and again I say rejoice!' especially if they are feeling down. You can hear the song (and vote for it) on Indieheaven.com's Fan Fave page!
The folks loved the song.....but get the real deal from Brad.

Please go check out Brad Reynolds' Music at indieheaven.com.

Earliest Easter of our life!

Check this info I recieved from my pastor, Ronnie Caswell, at Forest Park Community Church in Louisville, KY. Pretty cool stuff about Easter!

Easter this year is: Sunday March 23, 2008
As you may know, Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20).

This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

Found out a couple of things you might be interested in!
Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare.
This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier! Here's the facts:

The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!).

The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!

Cool! Happy Easter!

healing bananas

The Healing Power of Bananas:

From an article by thisisby.us/ and there is a lot more than what I have listed.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect food for helping to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain trypotophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body so if you suffer from heart-burn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

What Others are saying of the Trust CD!

These are just random comments in response to a great review by C.E. Moore and The Christian Manifesto. Go, read and respond....if you like.

  • The album really grows on you. The more I listen to it the more I want to listen to it again. If you really listen to the words you really will be blessed with the deeper meaning that they have. Not as shallow as some of the current fare that is out there. Howard Lisech said this on February 18, 2008 at 11:23 am

  • We love the words and the music on the Trust album, and listen to it nearly every day. Chris Carder’s heart for the Lord is evident in his music. The title song Trust is my favorite, but I really enjoy Mile of Sunshine Boulevard and For a Thousand Tongues. Beth Britton said this on February 18, 2008 at 1:09 pm

  • Thankfully, Chris Carder is his own unique creation. A man after God’s heart; apparent by the lyrics he writes and sings. I love the sound of his voice, sometimes smooth and sometimes a little rough around the edges. Although Sunshine Blvd is my favorite by far, Trust can truly speak to my heart. Fortunately, I enjoy all the songs on this CD, which is not the case with all CDs I buy. This CD is a definite must have. LaVonda H said this on February 19, 2008 at 8:20 am

  • Chris is an awesome artist. yshwa4life said this on February 19, 2008 at 8:41 am

  • Chris is a man on a mission for God, and his music expresses that clearly. I am a big fan of all of his music, and as big a fan of Chris himself. He is a brother in Christ, and I see big things ahead for him and his ministry. David Wright (Jacob Blue) said this on February 19, 2008 at 9:25 am

  • C.E.: I agree with, and appreciate, your review of Trust. Chris Carder is a wonderful worker for the Lord. I have the privilege of being his sound mix as often as possible, and it is a great place to experience him in full. I’ve heard him play, whether worship songs or originals, over and over again. And I never tired of it. fully expect Chris to take your recommendations to heart and act on them. He does have the ability to go the next mile. I can’t wait to see what it looks like from there! Bob S said this on February 19, 2008 at 12:06 pm

  • Thanks for the review. Chris is a fun guy to work with & be around. I do love Mile of Sunshine Boulevard, and it conveys exactly what we were writing about–in my case, the thrill of going full throttle round a curve, leaning into the wind & enjoying the ride on a well-tuned bike. Never do anything half-way! Frank French said this on February 19, 2008 at 8:16 pm \

  • I have known Chris for over 15 years and I believe he has a unique and ordained style. While I love his new work, and love the way he has a subtle but palatable spiritual depth in his lyrics, I also love his work from past albums. I would love to see a re-release of the single “Old Man”! His lyrics are drawn from his life and the depth of his soul. It is hard to truly experience an artist over the airwaves. Trust is a solid delivery in CD format, but a Trust concert is to be experienced!! Mike Hadaway said this on February 19, 2008 at 10:26 pm

    Fidel Castro Resigns Cuban Presidency

Fresh off the wire that the Cuban dictator has resigned. In the days to follow, there will be floods of reports of the history between Castro and the many presidents he avoided since 1959. He will still be influential in the coming months, serving in various areas but hopefully, this will bring a new era for the Cuban/U.S. relations. Here is an article from the assosiated press:

"HAVANA (Feb. 19) - Fidel Castro, ailing and 81, announced Tuesday he was resigning as Cuba's president, ending a half-century of autocratic rule which made him a communist icon and a relentless opponent of U.S. policy around the globe." (read more....)

    The Mayflower Compact-1620 A.D.

The Truth Project update: Tour 6 is entitled 'History: Whose Story?' and it was another week of eye opening reminders of the truths that get so easily perverted. The big question I remember this week was are you working on your own story, cause if you are, then life is very small and meaningless. But if you lose yourself into God's story as those in Hebrews 11 did....life is an amazing adventure where you pass on a legacy that will last forever!
Dr. Del Tackett reminded us the Mayflower Compact. You don't usually see it in schools these days in it's original form. Here is the whole story.

"In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord, King James, by the Grace of God, of England, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, e&. Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the General good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In Witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the eleventh of November, in the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, King James of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth. Anno Domini, 1620."

There followed the signatures of 41 of the 102 passengers, 37 of whom were Separatists fleeing religious persecution in Europe. This compact established the first basis in the new world for written laws. Half of the colony failed to survive the first winter, but the remainder lived on and prospered.

Tom Petty at Forest Park Community Church!

Yeah ok, Tom Petty wasn't there in person. But after hearing him throwing down a couple of weeks in the Superbowl XLII half-time show his songs were on my mind. Our pastor was preaching about Ephesians 6:10-18 and I just thought 'I Won't Back Down', one of the songs he perfomed at the half-time show, was a pretty good description of how Christians are to stand against the schemes of the devil. So, our praise band played Tom Petty's song during the offering. The Forest Park Community Church folks, located in Louisville, Kentucky loved it. Petty is our pastor's favorite artist..

Just a little fun with Josiah Porter while in Maine. I am here with Tracy Farnsworth, a longtime friend singing at the Machias Coffeehouse. Evolution .... talk about Blind Faith

For the last few weeks many churches around the globe have been going through Focus on the Family sponsored The Truth Project. It is a study on the Christian Worldview. It is an excellent study. We, too, are going through the curriculum at Forest Park Community Church.

Last night, we were on the topic: "Science: What is True?" Wow, there was a whole lot of information instructor Del Tackett poured out....with the disclaimer that there is a vast source of info which time does not allow to be discussed. Several evolutionists were quoted and I was reminded of how one-sided academia has become concerning the ongoing battle of Evolution vs. Creation. Here is a quote from George Wald, (1906 - 1997) Professor of Biology at Harvard University.
"The reasonable view was to believe in spontaneous generation; the only alternative, to believe in a single, primary act of supernatural creation. There is no third position. For this reason many scientists a century ago chose to regard the belief in spontaneous generation as a "philosophical necessity." It is a symptom of the philosophical poverty of our time that this necessity is no longer appreciated. Most modern biologists, having reviewed with satisfaction the downfall of the spontaneous generation hypothesis, yet unwilling to accept the alternative belief in special creation, are left with nothing."
And later in the same article he says, "One has only to contemplate the magnitude of this task to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible. Yet here we are as a result, I believe, of spontaneous generation."
From "The origin of life" Scientific American August 1954 p.46

    Now, talk about blind faith!
    Psalm 53
1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

    Rend the Heavens

A short three weeks ago, Keith Mohr, president of indieheaven.com, passed on an up and coming band named 'Rend the Heavens'. I found them over on IH and decided to take a listen. I love their stuff and would like to encourage all to check them out.

Rend the Heavens is based out of Franklin, Tennessee. They have energetic music with great lyrics and powerful messages. This week I introduced their song simply called 'Holy' to our congregation. Here are the words:

    HOLY
    Verse 1:
Lord, there's a longing in my heart God, Holy
Want to know you as you are God, Holy
Here as I'm hoping like a child, All my dreams will come alive
Dreams to hear the angels singing Holy,
Dreams to heal the sick and see your glory
And You coming closer now I feel, nothing's ever been so real
    Chorus:
Oh, and I want to sing from my heart, You are holy
O Beautiful One, I will sing, You are holy
    Verse 2:
God, broken Lamb upon the altar, holy,
Want to stare until my life is holy
And You, glowing eyes so full of love,
You are all I'm dreaming of........
    Bridge:
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, You are worthy

    © 2007 Aaron Sternke

Awesome song that has you shouting from the rooftops how holy and worthy our God truly is! The congregation at Forest Park Community Church loved it as I do. Go check out Rend the Heavens.

Shoebox at #1 on Indieheaven Fan Faves

Thanks to the voting, Shoebox has made it up to the #1 spot at the Indieheaven.com's Fan Faves, at the time of this writing. Shoebox was a creation to remind us all of the future we have as believers in Christ. Life may be hard, really hard.....or you can live on easy street. But when we move on.....life is well.....awesome. Lots of people remember their past, like high school days as their glory days. Before too long, they have all this baggage and nothing to live for in the future. I call this baggage a shoebox filled with the stuff. It could be promises of past loves or how we envisioned our life when we were younger...and it just did not turn out like we thought it should. We know that this life is just a glimpse of the one to come...better days are ahead. So, this is a song of encouragement and hope.

I had this song started with a couple of verses penned out. When I went to record in Atlanta, it was just something I was working on. My producer said, "Hey, that's pretty cool. Change the chorus and let's record this song." So, we finished it that week. Take a listen. AND keep voting!

    Shoebox
I’ve got a shoebox underneath my arm,
Yeah, its been draggin’ me down way too long.
Filled with empty dreams that never came true
I bet we all have got a box or two.

    Chorus:
    I’m letting go
Of all the things that are pulling me down
    Now that I know
There’s so much for me than what’s come before
I’ve done made up my mind
    Not wasting no more time
    I’m leaving it behind

I’m tired of thinking ‘bout what might have been
How I could change my life and live it again
That’s just a lie trying to run me down
My better days are all in front of me now.

    Praise songs this week

I had a blast this week leading the praise sets at Forest Park Community Church located in Louisville, Kentucky. We used the Todd Agnew song, "In the Middle of Me", as the 'call to worship' and it just got better and better. One song that rocked my world was the old Vineyard song, "Exalt the Lord". It has echoes in it and tells of God's holiness. It is really powerful. The congregation was wailing on it also....it was special. Here is the set list:

    Yeah....Loved that game!

We all heard the last two weeks that basically there was little chance that the New York Giants would be able to overcome the unstoppable New England Patriots machine. You know, the greatest team in the NFL. The greatest offense in history with that playboy Joe Namath type do no wrong quarterback. In the opposing corner, a mild, humble slinger who cherishes not desiring the limelight, but insists on allowing his play to be the topic of the roporters. Eli Manning turned the upset of his life and I enjoyed every last moment of that game!

So, here is one for the underdog who played the best game of this short century. And for sure, New England will now be remembered not for the 18-0 start of this year, but for a task unfinished....being the greatest team of all time. And go figure, it was Don Shula's birthday. What a present for the former coach of the undefeated world champion Miami Dolphins of 1972. Check out last nights game nfl.com

Strange and Wonderful - The Video

    Video Link

Captured at a coffeehouse in July of 2007 at Forest Park Community Church. A tune I co-wrote (barely) with Mac Powell, of the band Third Day. I have loved singing this song around the globe and always feel the power of God's anointing while singing it. It is definitely a favorite everywhere I have travelled.
